Qiraa Corpus Contributor Terms

Last updated: August 17, 2026

These Qiraa Corpus Contributor Terms ("Contributor Terms") govern your access to and use of contributor, reviewer, validation, editing and related tools made available through Qiraa Corpus.

These Contributor Terms form an agreement between you and Qiraa Ltd ("Qiraa", "we", "us" or "our").

They supplement the Qiraa Terms of Service, the Qiraa Corpus Privacy Notice, and any additional terms or licences presented to you in connection with a particular contribution, feature or dataset.

Please read these Contributor Terms carefully. Corpus contributions are designed to form part of a persistent, versioned scholarly record. Once certain material has been committed or published, you may not be able to withdraw or delete the underlying contribution.

1. About these Contributor Terms

Qiraa Corpus is a collaborative Islamic data infrastructure designed to support the structured collection, segmentation, review, verification, publication and reuse of Islamic data.

These Contributor Terms apply when you:
  • request or receive contributor access;
  • use contributor, reviewer, validation or editing tools;
  • submit, commit, review or approve Corpus material;
  • participate in Corpus discussions or review workflows;
  • submit recitations or other media to the Corpus;
  • hold yourself out as a verified Corpus contributor; or
  • otherwise participate in the creation or maintenance of Qiraa Corpus.

Public read-only use of the Corpus may instead be governed by separate Corpus usage or data-licence terms.

2. Acceptance and eligibility

By expressly accepting these Contributor Terms, activating contributor access, or submitting a Contribution after being presented with these terms, you agree to be bound by them.

You must normally be at least 18 years old to hold contributor, editor or reviewer access unless Qiraa has expressly approved a separate process for younger contributors.

You must provide accurate information when applying for Corpus access and must not impersonate another person or falsely represent:
  • your identity;
  • your qualifications;
  • your scholarly background;
  • your employment;
  • your institutional affiliation;
  • your experience; or
  • your authority to act for an organisation.

If you accept these Contributor Terms on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation where applicable.

If you do not agree to these Contributor Terms, you must not use privileged Corpus contributor tools.

3. Qiraa account and Corpus access

A Qiraa account is required before you can request contributor access to Qiraa Corpus.

Your underlying Qiraa account remains governed by the Qiraa Terms of Service and Qiraa's applicable account policies.

Corpus access is separate from an ordinary Qiraa account. Having a Qiraa account does not create an automatic entitlement to:
  • Corpus contributor access;
  • editing permissions;
  • review permissions;
  • approval permissions;
  • maintainer permissions; or
  • access to restricted Corpus material.

Qiraa determines Corpus permissions according to factors including verification status, role, expertise, experience, workflow requirements, security and the needs of the Corpus.

4. Contributor roles and permissions

Corpus permissions may be divided into different roles or levels.

These may include, for example:
  • approved but unverified contributors;
  • verified contributors;
  • reviewers;
  • final reviewers;
  • specialist reviewers;
  • maintainers;
  • administrators; and
  • other roles introduced by Qiraa.

An approved but unverified contributor may be able to access certain tools without receiving permission to commit, edit, review or approve production Corpus data.

Permissions are granted only for the purposes for which they are provided.

You must not attempt to circumvent role restrictions, access data outside your authorised scope, or use one permission to obtain functionality reserved for another role.

Qiraa may add, remove, limit or modify permissions where reasonably necessary for Corpus governance, security, accuracy or workflow management.

5. Verification

Qiraa may require identity, qualification, employment, affiliation or other verification before granting particular permissions.

Identity verification may be carried out using a specialist third-party provider. Qualification and professional verification may be performed manually by Qiraa or through another suitable provider.

A verified badge means only that Qiraa has completed the stated form of verification using the process applicable at that time.

Verification does not:
  • constitute an endorsement of all views expressed by that contributor;
  • guarantee that every contribution made by that contributor is correct;
  • represent a religious ruling or scholarly certification by Qiraa;
  • guarantee continued access to any Corpus permission; or
  • prevent Qiraa from requesting renewed verification.

Current employment, professional-role or institutional-affiliation verification will normally require renewal at least once every 12 months.

Qiraa may remove or expire a verification status where the underlying information is no longer current or cannot be reverified.

6. Public profile and attribution

Approved Corpus contributors may have a public contributor profile.

As explained in the Qiraa Corpus Privacy Notice, information associated with that profile may include:
  • your full name;
  • your work email;
  • your organisation;
  • your role;
  • verification status;
  • qualifications;
  • experience;
  • biography;
  • profile photograph;
  • areas of expertise;
  • contributions;
  • reviews;
  • commits;
  • merges;
  • public discussions; and
  • other public Corpus activity.

You acknowledge that public Corpus activity is intended to be attributable and may be indexed, referenced, cited or copied by third parties.

Your current contributor profile may change over time. Historical records may nevertheless preserve information that was accurate or relevant at the time a Contribution was made.

7. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for activity carried out through your contributor account.

You must:
  • use Corpus access only for legitimate Corpus purposes;
  • keep your account secure;
  • provide accurate information;
  • keep professional information reasonably current;
  • work within the permissions granted to you;
  • follow applicable Corpus workflows;
  • respect review-independence requirements;
  • identify uncertainty where appropriate;
  • use appropriate sources and evidence;
  • correct mistakes you identify where the workflow permits;
  • treat other contributors professionally and respectfully; and
  • notify Qiraa of security issues, conflicts or serious errors where reasonably necessary.

You remain responsible for the substance of Contributions submitted through your account even where software or automated tools assisted you in preparing them.

8. Scholarly standards and sources

Qiraa Corpus is intended to preserve data with a high standard of accuracy, traceability and scholarly accountability.

When contributing material, you must take reasonable steps appropriate to your role to ensure that:
  • the material is accurate to the best of your knowledge;
  • sources are identified where the workflow requires them;
  • quotations and source text are reproduced faithfully;
  • uncertain or disputed material is not presented as certain without justification;
  • metadata accurately reflects its source and context;
  • you do not knowingly introduce misleading segmentation, attribution or references;
  • you distinguish source data from commentary or interpretation where required; and
  • you follow any applicable methodology, style, riwayah, numbering, textual or validation rules specified by the Corpus.

The existence of disagreement between recognised scholarly traditions does not by itself make a Contribution invalid. Where the Corpus supports multiple recognised views, readings, methodologies or source traditions, contributors must use the relevant structured fields and attribution mechanisms rather than silently replacing one with another.

9. Review independence and conflicts

The integrity of Qiraa Corpus depends on genuinely independent review.

Unless a workflow expressly permits otherwise:
  • you must not approve your own Contribution;
  • you must not represent yourself as an independent reviewer of work you materially authored;
  • you must not coordinate with another contributor to manufacture the appearance of independent approval;
  • you must not use multiple accounts to review or approve the same work;
  • you must disclose material conflicts of interest where they could reasonably affect the review; and
  • you must follow reviewer-exclusion rules shown by the Corpus workflow.

Previous reviewers may also be excluded from later review stages, including final compilation reviews.

Qiraa may invalidate a review, reopen a ticket or require additional review where independence is uncertain.

10. Prohibited conduct

You must not use Corpus contributor access to:
  • knowingly submit false, fabricated or materially misleading information;
  • impersonate a scholar, institution or another contributor;
  • falsify qualifications or employment;
  • manipulate review or voting processes;
  • bypass contributor permissions or security controls;
  • introduce malicious code, files or payloads;
  • obtain information you are not authorised to access;
  • harass, threaten or abuse other users;
  • publish private or confidential information without authority;
  • submit material that unlawfully infringes third-party rights;
  • use Corpus systems to distribute spam or unrelated promotional material;
  • interfere with the integrity or availability of the Corpus;
  • conceal a material conflict of interest;
  • misrepresent a Qiraa verification badge or permission level; or
  • use Qiraa's name to imply that Qiraa endorses a personal scholarly opinion when it has not done so.

Qiraa may investigate suspected abuse and preserve relevant records where reasonably required.

11. Ownership of Contributions

Except where another written agreement applies, you retain ownership of copyright and other intellectual-property rights that you already own in original material you contribute.

Submitting material to the Corpus does not, by itself, transfer ownership of all of your intellectual property to Qiraa.

However, your ownership is subject to the broad licence granted to Qiraa under these Contributor Terms and any applicable Qiraa Corpus Contribution Licence.

Many Corpus elements may consist of facts, source material, public-domain material, material owned by third parties, pre-existing Qiraa material or material in which no copyright arises. These Contributor Terms do not give you ownership of material merely because you edited, segmented, tagged, reviewed or corrected it.

Qiraa and its licensors retain their rights in:
  • the Qiraa and Qiraa Corpus software;
  • Qiraa branding and trade marks;
  • existing Qiraa datasets;
  • Corpus schemas and systems;
  • selection and arrangement in which Qiraa holds rights;
  • database rights belonging to Qiraa;
  • Qiraa documentation; and
  • other Qiraa intellectual property.

12. Licence granted to Qiraa

When you submit material as a Contribution to Qiraa Corpus, you grant Qiraa, to the extent that you own or control the relevant rights, a worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully paid-up, transferable and sublicensable licence to use that Contribution.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, that licence is intended to be irrevocable once the Contribution has been committed, submitted into a permanent workflow, accepted or published.

The licence includes the right to:
  • host and store the Contribution;
  • copy and reproduce it;
  • publish and republish it;
  • display and make it available to the public;
  • communicate it to the public;
  • modify, correct and adapt it;
  • translate or transliterate it;
  • segment and restructure it;
  • annotate and enrich it;
  • combine it with other material;
  • merge or supersede it;
  • create derivative material from it;
  • extract and reutilise it as part of a database;
  • include it in present and future Corpus releases;
  • make it available through websites, applications and APIs;
  • include it in research or analytical datasets;
  • use it in search, computational analysis, machine-learning and artificial-intelligence systems;
  • license or sublicense it to third parties;
  • distribute it commercially or non-commercially; and
  • otherwise use it for the development, operation, preservation, distribution and exploitation of Qiraa Corpus and related Qiraa products and services.

This licence applies in any media or technology now known or developed in the future.

The licence survives closure of your Qiraa account, removal of your contributor profile, termination of contributor access, removal of personal attribution and de-identification of historical Contributions.

The rights granted under this section include Qiraa's right to continue storing, administering, modifying, publishing, distributing, licensing and otherwise using a Contribution after the original contributor's personal attribution has been removed.

Where a structured historical Corpus Contribution has been de-identified, Qiraa may display, index and reference that Contribution under the Qiraa institutional entity.

Such institutional attribution does not represent that Qiraa was necessarily the original human author of the Contribution. It identifies Qiraa as the institutional entity maintaining and administering the de-identified Contribution within Corpus history.

A request to exercise data-protection rights does not, by itself, revoke intellectual-property permissions previously granted over the underlying non-personal Contribution.

13. Moral rights and attribution

Qiraa intends, where reasonably practicable, to preserve useful contributor attribution as part of Corpus provenance while a Contribution remains personally attributed to an active or identifiable contributor.

However, you acknowledge that a Contribution may need to be:
  • edited;
  • corrected;
  • translated;
  • combined with another Contribution;
  • reformatted;
  • restructured;
  • partially used;
  • superseded;
  • distributed without individual attribution in certain machine-readable contexts; or
  • de-identified following an applicable privacy request.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you consent to Qiraa and its authorised licensees carrying out these activities where permitted by the rights granted to Qiraa.

Where Qiraa requires a formal waiver of moral rights or another signed intellectual-property instrument, Qiraa may require you to accept a separate Contribution Licence or electronic instrument before particular material can be accepted.

Institutional attribution following de-identification

Where personal attribution is removed from a structured Corpus Contribution, Qiraa may replace the contributor attribution with the Qiraa institutional entity.

For example:

Contributor: [Contributor Name]

may subsequently become:

Contributor: Qiraa

This label identifies Qiraa as the institutional entity maintaining the de-identified Contribution within the Corpus. It does not necessarily state that Qiraa or any particular Qiraa employee was the original human author.

Public messages and discussions are treated differently and may instead be attributed to QiraaDeletedUser as described elsewhere in these Contributor Terms.

Voice recordings will not be re-attributed as though Qiraa itself performed the original recitation.

14. Third-party materials

You must not submit material to the Corpus unless you have a lawful basis to do so.

Where a Contribution contains material owned or controlled by another person, you are responsible for ensuring that its use is permitted by:
  • a licence;
  • permission;
  • applicable law;
  • public-domain status; or
  • another valid legal basis.

You must identify applicable source, copyright, attribution or licence information where the Corpus workflow requires it.

Attributing or citing a third-party source does not, by itself, grant permission to reproduce protected material from that source.

You must not remove copyright, licence, attribution or provenance information from third-party material where doing so would be unlawful or misleading.

Where third-party material is incorporated into a Contribution, the relevant source and rights information should be recorded as accurately as reasonably possible using the Corpus provenance mechanisms.

If you become aware that a Contribution may infringe third-party rights, you must notify Qiraa promptly and reasonably cooperate with Qiraa in investigating the issue.

15. Third-party sources, quotations and referenced works

Qiraa Corpus is designed to preserve source provenance. Contributors may therefore identify, cite, reference and link Corpus data to works created or published by third-party scholars, institutions, publishers and other sources.

A reference to a third-party work does not, by itself, transfer ownership of that work to Qiraa or to the contributor.

Where a contributor reproduces, extracts, uploads or otherwise incorporates protected material from a third-party source, the contributor is responsible for ensuring that the relevant use is permitted by:
  • a licence or permission;
  • applicable copyright or other intellectual-property law;
  • an applicable quotation, criticism, review, research or other legal exception;
  • public-domain status; or
  • another valid legal basis.

Providing attribution or identifying the original source does not, by itself, give permission to reproduce protected material.

Preservation of source provenance

Where a Contribution is derived from, quotes or references an identified third-party source, Qiraa may preserve the relevant:
  • source citation;
  • author or scholar reference;
  • work or publication reference;
  • edition or version information;
  • page, section or location reference;
  • licence or rights information;
  • Corpus provenance record; and
  • historical fact that the source was used or referenced.

This provenance information may remain even where associated third-party material is subsequently restricted, removed, replaced or made unavailable.

Third-party rights complaints

If Qiraa receives a credible complaint from a rights holder or otherwise becomes aware that submitted material may unlawfully infringe third-party rights, Qiraa may:
  • temporarily restrict or disable access to the disputed material;
  • request evidence of permission, licensing or another lawful basis from the contributor;
  • contact the contributor or rights holder for additional information;
  • remove, redact or replace disputed material where appropriate;
  • preserve non-infringing citation, source and provenance information;
  • preserve the historical Corpus record showing that the submission occurred;
  • record that material was restricted, removed, superseded or otherwise made unavailable;
  • restrict contributor permissions where misuse is established; and
  • take any other action reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law or protect third-party rights.

The contributor must reasonably cooperate with Qiraa in investigating a third-party rights complaint relating to material submitted through that contributor's account.

Removal or restriction of third-party material does not necessarily require deletion of the historical Corpus event associated with its submission.

Where appropriate, Qiraa may preserve the commit, provenance and source record while removing or disabling access only to the disputed third-party payload.

16. AI-assisted and automated Contributions

Qiraa may permit the use of artificial-intelligence, machine-learning, transcription, alignment, analysis or other automated tools in specified Corpus workflows.

Where such use is permitted:
  • you remain responsible for the Contribution submitted through your account;
  • automated output must not be treated as verified merely because software generated it;
  • you must perform the review required by the applicable workflow;
  • you must disclose automated assistance where Qiraa requires disclosure;
  • you must not use a tool in a way that unlawfully exposes restricted Corpus information to a third party; and
  • you must comply with any feature-specific AI or automation rules issued by Qiraa.

Qiraa may prohibit automated contribution in workflows where human scholarly judgement is required.

17. Commits, versioning and permanence

Qiraa Corpus operates using a versioned historical model broadly comparable to source-control systems.

Once a Contribution becomes a committed or published part of Corpus history, the historical event is intended to be permanent.

This means a committed Contribution may later be:
  • edited by a later commit;
  • corrected;
  • superseded;
  • merged;
  • reverted;
  • challenged;
  • reclassified;
  • replaced;
  • restricted for legal or rights-related reasons; or
  • excluded from a later Corpus release.

These later actions do not ordinarily erase the historical record showing that the earlier Contribution existed.

A revert is therefore itself a new historical action rather than deletion of the earlier commit.

Where third-party material contained within an earlier Contribution must be removed or restricted, Qiraa may preserve the historical commit and its non-infringing provenance information while disabling access to the affected material.

You cannot require Qiraa to rewrite an already published historical Corpus release merely because you later disagree with, regret or wish to withdraw a Contribution.

Where your personal attribution must subsequently be removed, a structured Corpus Contribution may remain in the historical record under the Qiraa institutional entity in accordance with these Contributor Terms and the Qiraa Corpus Privacy Notice.

"Permanent" in these Contributor Terms refers to the intended persistence and append-oriented nature of the historical record. It is not a guarantee that Qiraa will operate a particular service, server or Corpus release forever.

18. Drafts

Material clearly identified by Qiraa as a private draft is not treated as a published Corpus Contribution merely because you have saved it.

Unless a feature states otherwise, drafts remain private until you:
  • publish them;
  • submit them for review;
  • commit them;
  • submit them into another public or permanent workflow; or
  • otherwise take an action clearly identified as moving them into Corpus history.

You may be able to edit or delete drafts while they remain drafts.

Once draft material enters a permanent Corpus workflow, the rules concerning versioning, attribution and permanence may apply.

19. Messages and discussions

Public messages, review comments and discussions associated with Corpus activity are intended to preserve the reasoning surrounding Contributions and decisions.

Unless a feature states otherwise:
  • you may edit a public message for up to 24 hours after sending it;
  • after that period, the message becomes part of the persistent discussion history;
  • you cannot ordinarily delete or rewrite the message after the editing period expires; and
  • later clarification should normally be added as a new message.

Qiraa may nevertheless redact, remove, restrict or correct content where reasonably necessary for legal compliance, privacy, security, safeguarding, intellectual-property concerns, abuse prevention or moderation.

Deletion of personal attribution

Public messages and discussion records are treated differently from structured Corpus Contributions.

If your personal attribution is subsequently removed or de-identified, historical public messages, comments and discussion entries may remain attributed to:

QiraaDeletedUser

QiraaDeletedUser indicates that the original contributor's personal identity has been removed. It does not identify Qiraa as the author of the original statement.

Where the body of a message itself contains personal information that must be removed or restricted, Qiraa may additionally redact or remove the affected information while preserving the surrounding discussion structure where appropriate.

20. Voice recitations and audio Contributions

Where you submit a voice recitation or other audio recording to the Corpus, the recording may become a long-term Corpus Contribution.

To the extent that you own or control relevant rights, you grant Qiraa the licence described in these Contributor Terms in relation to:
  • the audio recording;
  • your recorded performance;
  • associated annotations;
  • recitation metadata; and
  • other material submitted with the recording.

This includes permission, to the extent permitted by law and the rights you control, to store, reproduce, analyse, annotate, segment, transform, publish, distribute, license and use the recording in Corpus-related products, research, software and analytical systems.

Accepted audio is intended to be retained as part of the long-term Corpus record where Qiraa has a lawful basis to do so.

Removal of personal attribution

If personal attribution associated with a voice Contribution is subsequently removed, Qiraa may remove:
  • your name;
  • contributor identifier;
  • profile association;
  • organisation;
  • role;
  • public contributor metadata; and
  • other direct identifying links to your contributor profile.

The underlying audio may continue to be retained and used where Qiraa has a lawful basis to do so.

A de-identified voice recording will not be represented as having been personally recited or performed by Qiraa merely because the contributor's identifying attribution has been removed.

The treatment of identifiable voice data and applicable privacy rights is explained in the Qiraa Corpus Privacy Notice.

21. Qiraa editorial and governance rights

Qiraa is responsible for the overall operation and governance of Qiraa Corpus.

Qiraa may:
  • accept or reject Contributions;
  • request corrections;
  • require additional evidence;
  • reopen completed reviews;
  • require additional reviewers;
  • invalidate a review;
  • merge Contributions;
  • modify formatting or structure;
  • institutionally re-attribute de-identified structured Contributions to Qiraa;
  • correct technical errors;
  • supersede earlier Contributions;
  • revert changes through a later commit;
  • change workflows;
  • change schemas;
  • change contributor permissions;
  • delay a Contribution until a later compilation;
  • exclude material from a release; and
  • take other reasonable steps necessary to preserve Corpus integrity.

Acceptance of a Contribution does not prevent Qiraa or another authorised contributor from later changing, challenging or superseding it.

No contributor has a permanent entitlement to control a particular Corpus record merely because they originally created or edited it.

22. Corpus publication, APIs and licensing

Qiraa may make Corpus material available through one or more channels, including:
  • public websites;
  • Qiraa applications;
  • downloadable datasets;
  • developer APIs;
  • research datasets;
  • institutional partnerships;
  • commercial licences;
  • non-commercial licences;
  • derived products;
  • analytical systems; and
  • future distribution methods.

A Contribution may therefore be incorporated into free services, paid services, commercial products, licensed datasets or services operated by Qiraa or authorised third parties.

Unless a separate written agreement states otherwise, you are not entitled to royalties or licence revenue merely because a Corpus release containing your Contribution is later commercialised or licensed.

Qiraa may apply different licences to different Corpus releases, APIs or data products provided those licences do not exceed the rights Qiraa lawfully holds.

23. No employment or compensation

Contributor access does not, by itself, create:
  • an employment relationship;
  • a worker relationship;
  • an agency relationship;
  • a partnership;
  • a joint venture;
  • a fiduciary relationship; or
  • authority to bind Qiraa.

Unless a separate written agreement expressly provides otherwise, Corpus contribution is voluntary and unpaid.

You are not entitled to salary, fees, royalties, equity or other compensation solely because you contribute to, review or maintain Corpus material.

This section does not override any separate employment, consultancy, scholarship, grant or services agreement between you and Qiraa.

24. Confidential and pre-release material

Some Corpus information may be private, restricted or not yet publicly released.

Where Qiraa clearly identifies information as confidential, restricted, embargoed or pre-release, you must not disclose it outside the authorised Corpus workflow unless:
  • Qiraa authorises disclosure;
  • the information becomes public through no breach by you;
  • you independently possessed the information lawfully without confidentiality restrictions; or
  • disclosure is required by law.

This obligation may continue after your contributor access ends where the information remains confidential.

You must not use restricted Corpus access to obtain a competitive, personal or commercial advantage unrelated to the authorised Corpus purpose.

25. Security and account integrity

Contributor accounts may provide access to sensitive workflows and must be protected accordingly.

You must:
  • keep your credentials confidential;
  • use security controls required by Qiraa;
  • not share your account with another person;
  • not allow another person to contribute under your identity;
  • notify Qiraa promptly if you reasonably suspect compromise;
  • not attempt to defeat access controls;
  • not test security vulnerabilities without authorisation; and
  • cooperate with reasonable security measures applicable to contributor access.

Qiraa may temporarily restrict an account while investigating suspected compromise or misuse.

26. Suspension, restriction and termination

Qiraa may restrict, suspend or terminate contributor privileges where reasonably necessary, including where:
  • you breach these Contributor Terms;
  • verification fails or expires;
  • information supplied by you is materially false;
  • your account appears compromised;
  • you abuse Corpus workflows;
  • you manipulate reviews;
  • you repeatedly submit materially unreliable Contributions;
  • you infringe third-party rights;
  • your conduct creates a security or legal risk;
  • continued access would threaten Corpus integrity; or
  • Qiraa reasonably needs to reorganise or discontinue a contributor programme.

Depending on the circumstances, Qiraa may remove only particular permissions rather than terminate the entire account.

Where appropriate, Qiraa may provide an explanation or internal review mechanism.

Termination of contributor access does not delete historical Contributions or revoke licences already granted.

27. Account deletion, de-identification and institutional attribution

Closing or deleting your Qiraa or Corpus account does not reverse, withdraw or delete Contributions that have entered permanent Corpus history.

Where your personal attribution is subsequently removed or irreversibly de-identified, Qiraa may transfer the public and operational attribution of your historical structured Corpus Contributions to the Qiraa institutional entity.

This may apply to:
  • commits;
  • edits;
  • merges;
  • reviews;
  • validation decisions;
  • database modifications;
  • provenance entries;
  • historical release records; and
  • other structured Corpus activity.

For example:

Contributor: [Your Name]

may subsequently become:

Contributor: Qiraa

Following this process, the Contribution may be displayed, indexed and referenced as a Contribution associated with the Qiraa institutional entity.

For the purposes of these Contributor Terms, such institutional attribution means that Qiraa maintains and assumes public Corpus attribution for the de-identified record. It does not, by itself, constitute a statement that Qiraa or any particular Qiraa employee was the original human author of material in which authorship rights exist.

The underlying historical Contribution remains subject to the perpetual licence granted to Qiraa under these Contributor Terms and any applicable Contribution Licence.

The Contribution may continue to be:
  • stored;
  • published;
  • modified;
  • merged;
  • superseded;
  • distributed;
  • included in Corpus releases;
  • made available through APIs;
  • licensed or sublicensed;
  • used in derived datasets and products; and
  • otherwise used by Qiraa in accordance with the rights previously granted.

Public messages and discussions

Historical public messages, comments and discussions are not ordinarily transferred to the Qiraa institutional entity.

Where personal attribution is removed, those records may instead remain attributed to QiraaDeletedUser.

This preserves the historical discussion without suggesting that Qiraa itself authored the original statement.

Voice Contributions

Where identifying information associated with a voice Contribution is removed, the underlying audio may continue to be retained and used where Qiraa has a lawful basis to do so.

Qiraa will not represent itself as the original individual reciter or performer merely because identifying attribution has been removed.

Irreversible de-identification

Where Qiraa completes an irreversible de-identification process, the relationship between affected historical Corpus records and your personal identity may be permanently severed.

Once that relationship has been irreversibly removed, Qiraa may be unable to restore your previous attribution or determine from retained information that a particular Qiraa-attributed Contribution was originally made by you.

If Qiraa retains separate information that allows an historical Contribution to be linked back to you, the information may remain personal data and will continue to be handled in accordance with the Qiraa Corpus Privacy Notice.

Account deletion, de-identification or institutional re-attribution does not revoke the Contribution licence previously granted to Qiraa.

28. Privacy and personal information

The processing of personal information associated with Corpus contribution is governed by the Qiraa Corpus Privacy Notice and, where relevant, the main Qiraa Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Notice explains matters including:
  • public contributor information;
  • work-email publication;
  • identity verification;
  • qualification verification;
  • employment verification;
  • historical attribution;
  • institutional attribution of de-identified structured Contributions to Qiraa;
  • use of QiraaDeletedUser for de-identified public discussions;
  • messages;
  • voice recordings;
  • retention;
  • de-identification and anonymisation; and
  • your applicable data-protection rights.

These Contributor Terms govern the contractual and intellectual-property consequences of contribution. The Privacy Notice governs the processing of personal information.

29. Availability and disclaimers

Qiraa aims to operate the Corpus with a high standard of reliability and scholarly care, but Corpus services may change over time.

Qiraa does not guarantee:
  • continuous or uninterrupted availability;
  • that every Contribution will be accepted;
  • that every accepted Contribution will appear in every release;
  • that a particular contributor permission will remain available;
  • that historical software interfaces will remain unchanged;
  • that third-party services will remain available; or
  • that every Corpus record will be free from error or scholarly disagreement.

Corpus content may evolve through review, correction and later scholarship.

Verification of a contributor does not constitute a guarantee by Qiraa that every statement, interpretation or Contribution made by that contributor is correct.

Nothing in these Contributor Terms excludes obligations or guarantees that cannot lawfully be excluded.

30. Liability

Nothing in these Contributor Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability that cannot lawfully be excluded for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or applicable statutory rights.

If you participate as a consumer, nothing in these Contributor Terms affects mandatory consumer rights available to you under applicable law.

To the extent permitted by law, Qiraa is not responsible for:
  • loss arising solely from your unauthorised use of contributor tools;
  • loss caused by information you supplied inaccurately;
  • loss caused by third-party systems outside Qiraa's reasonable control;
  • loss of anticipated reputation, opportunity or scholarly recognition;
  • the decision of another authorised contributor to challenge or supersede your Contribution; or
  • indirect or consequential losses where the law permits their exclusion.

If you use the Corpus wholly or mainly in the course of a trade, business, craft or profession, Qiraa's aggregate contractual liability arising from these Contributor Terms will, to the extent permitted by law, not exceed the greater of £1,000 or the amount you paid directly to Qiraa specifically for Corpus contributor services during the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Any limitation in this section applies only to the extent that it is lawful and reasonable in the circumstances.

31. Responsibility for third-party claims

You remain responsible for material you knowingly or negligently submit without the necessary authority.

If a third-party rights complaint concerns material submitted through your contributor account, Qiraa may require you to provide information reasonably necessary to assess the complaint, including:
  • the source from which the material was obtained;
  • relevant licence information;
  • evidence of permission;
  • the legal exception or other lawful basis relied upon; and
  • other relevant provenance information available to you.

You must reasonably cooperate with Qiraa in investigating such a complaint.

If you use the Corpus in the course of a business, profession or organisation, you agree, to the extent permitted by law, to reimburse Qiraa for reasonable losses, liabilities and costs arising directly from a third-party claim caused by:
  • your deliberate infringement of that third party's intellectual-property rights;
  • your deliberate submission of unlawfully obtained confidential information;
  • fraud or deliberate misrepresentation by you;
  • your unauthorised use of another person's identity; or
  • your deliberate material breach of these Contributor Terms.

This provision does not require you to compensate Qiraa for losses caused by Qiraa itself and does not apply beyond what applicable law permits.

32. Changes to these Contributor Terms

Qiraa may update these Contributor Terms as Corpus functionality, contributor workflows, technology, licensing arrangements or applicable law change.

The latest version will show an updated effective date.

Where a change materially affects contributor rights or obligations, Qiraa will provide reasonable notice where appropriate.

Qiraa may require you to expressly accept materially updated Contributor Terms before continuing to use privileged contributor tools.

Changes to these Contributor Terms do not revoke licences already validly granted to Qiraa in relation to earlier Contributions.

Future Contributions may be subject to the terms in effect when those Contributions are submitted.

33. Governing law and disputes

These Contributor Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory legal protections that apply to you.

If you are acting as a consumer, you retain any mandatory rights concerning governing law and the courts in which you may bring proceedings.

If you are acting wholly in the course of a trade, business, profession or organisation, the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Contributor Terms, unless Qiraa and you agree otherwise in writing.

Before commencing formal proceedings, both parties are encouraged to attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute through direct communication where appropriate.

34. General terms

If any provision of these Contributor Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

A failure by Qiraa to enforce a provision immediately does not waive Qiraa's right to enforce it later.

You may not transfer your contributor account or your rights to privileged Corpus access to another person without Qiraa's permission.

Qiraa may transfer its rights and obligations under these Contributor Terms as part of a restructuring, group reorganisation, financing, merger, acquisition, sale of business or transfer of the Corpus, provided applicable law is respected.

Nothing in these Contributor Terms gives a person who is not a party to them a right to enforce them except where applicable law expressly provides otherwise.

Provisions concerning intellectual property, Contribution licences, version history, confidentiality, historical attribution, liability and other provisions which by their nature are intended to continue will survive termination of contributor access.

If these Contributor Terms are provided in more than one language, the English version will be treated as the reference version in the event of inconsistency, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
